U5 & U6 Young Dragons
2007-08 Program
Players eligible to play in the U5/U6 Young Dragons Academy will take part in a 16 week training program. The program is broken into two 8 week seasons, one in the fall and one in the spring. In these 8 week seasons there will be 3 opportunities per week for soccer activity provided by our AUFC professional coaching staff. Training sessions will be held weekdays after school, and matches will be on Saturdays.
On match day the players will play 4 v 4. They play with and against one another in their own league. The 4 v 4 format is put into place so that these young players will maximize the amount of touches on the ball they can take in a match. 4 players vs. 4 players is also the ideal format for players to begin to understand all the essential elements of the game of soccer.
The only time that set teams will be put together is on match day, and players will constantly be put onto different teams with one another. Lastly, there will not be any scores kept in the U5/U6 matches.
Total Cost ($150 for the year)
· $20 - Duke City Soccer Fee
· $30 - Uniform
· $100 - AUFC Fee (Coaching)

The Young Dragons Academy is an instructional program based on the principals of the US Soccer National Youth Licensing Program.
The National Youth License focuses upon the nature of children and the adjustments adults must make to coach them. The course curriculum covers the ages of 4-12 years old. Each day of the course, the focus is upon one of the traditional soccer age groups of U6, U8, U10 or U12. Each day, children of the appropriate age group are brought to the course site for the candidates to work with them in a practice training session. The candidates are videotaped while coaching the kids and the video is reviewed with each candidate to aid in the education of the coach. The course combines both classroom (theory) and field (practical) sessions. The course concludes with written, oral and practical examinations. The National Youth License course is six days in length, sometimes being held over two weekends rather than 6 days in a row. It is ideal for anyone hoping to become a better and more effective coach. (US Youth Soccer Organization)
Our professionally licensed coaches are trained specifically to work with young players by emphasizing skills development, coordination, decision making and, most importantly fun, while de-emphasizing competition.
